Ukulele is a great introductory instrument for students of all ages. If you enjoy singing and want to accompany yourself, this may be a perfect choice for you. Many of the young children I teach enjoy singing as well as learning chords. The smaller neck of the ukulele is perfect for small hands. Decent ukuleles are also very reasonably priced, making it a great instrument to explore after the group music classes that many toddlers and preschoolers take. Many of my ukulele students enjoy creating their own songs, writing both the lyrics as well as choosing chord progressions that are pleasing to them. My uke students also learn how to read music and play melodies.
